Mark Gorski, Treasurer
Mark Gorski is a proven champion in the competitive world of sports and a dynamic leader in the world of marketing. Gorski is currently the business development director of BRDG Park, the Bio-Research & Development Growth Park at the Danforth Plant Science Center. Mark is directing BRDG Park's efforts to attract agricultural technology and plant science companies as tenants to this new development. Mark's career trajectory illustrates his expertise at growing businesses into thriving enterprises, building successful partnerships, and negotiating multi-million dollar sponsorships.
Earning a gold medal in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, for cycling. Mark signed endorsement contracts with numerous companies and continued competing until 1989. He later combined his passion for sports and business savvy as co-founder and CEO of Tailwind Sports. Established in 1995, Tailwind Sports owned and managed the world's dominant professional cycling team, led by Lance Armstrong. Under Mark's management and Armstrong's leadership, the U.S. Postal Service Team became the first American team to win the Tour de France.
In addition to developing the relationship with Lance Armstrong, during his nine-year tenure with Tailwind, Mark grew the firm from $1 million in annual revenues to more than $13 million and from 15 employees to more than 50. He negotiated and managed nearly $100 million in sponsorship contracts with global brands, including the U.S. Postal Service, Visa®, Yahoo!®, Nike®, Coca-Cola®, Volkswagen and many others.
Before the formation of Tailwind Sports, Mark began his post athletic career with Wells Fargo Bank, marketing investment management and trust services to high net worth and institutional clients. Sought after for his championship background and business acumen, he next accepted a position with USA Cycling, the governing body for professional cycling. Serving as the director of corporate development, he was responsible for developing and managing all sponsorships for the organization.
With a personal commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle, Mark was compelled to serve as the St. Louis Campaign Manager for the Sister to Sister Foundation, Inc. After three successful years of growing the event and surpassing the majority of other campaign cities in terms of attendees and health screenings, Mark accepted the opportunity to expand his role with the foundation. He is currently leading the foundation's development office in efforts to secure national sponsorships in support of the 2009 campaign.
Gorski and his wife, Michele, reside in St. Louis and have five children, Alex, Kate, Nick, Will and Gavin.
